Residence permit application for students from non-EU/EEA countries

Students from a non-European Union (EU) or non-European Economic Area (EEA) country require a residence permit to study in Sweden for longer than three months.

The handling process for residence permit applications may take a long time. Therefore, we strongly recommend that nominated students from non-EU/EEA countries submit their residence permit applications as early as possible, but latest by the end of May. The acceptance letter which is used for a residence permit application will be sent by May 6th.

Students can find information about applying for a residence permit for study at the Swedish Migration Board website (https://www.migrationsverket.se/English/Startpage.html).

If a nominated student is from a non-EU/EEA country and has a study permit in one of the EU/EEA countries, student should contact the Swedish Migration Board how to handle their residence permit in Sweden in advance.
