YERUN's Mission

The primary objective of the Young European Research Universities Network (YERUN) is to strengthen and develop cooperation in the area of scientific research, academic education and service to society among a cluster of highly-ranked, young universities in Europe on an equal basis and for their common benefit.

The members of this university network have a number of key values in common:

  • an orientation towards research that makes a difference to society;
  • a commitment to internationalisation;
  • a focus on teaching quality;
  • an emphasis on graduate employability.

YERUN Members

YERUN's Objectives

  1. Work together to have young research universities influence research policies in Europe and, in particular, under the EU funding programmes for Research and Technological Development;
  2. Conduct activities to generate research collaboration in fields of common interest with social and/or economic impact and especially within the scope of EU Research and Innovation Programmes;
  3. Enhance academic exchange and development programmes of Faculty, Students and Staff between the members of the Network;
  4. Establish knowledge exchange on best practice in university governance and organization;
  5. Establish dual, multiple or joint International Degree Programmes: Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ph.D. programmes.

YERUN Organisation

The Network is run by the Assembly, formed by the Rectors/Presidents/Vice-Chancellors of the University members of the Network. The Assembly will appoint five of its members to form the Executive Committee of the Network. The Assembly shall also appoint the President and the Secretary among the members of the Executive Committee.

The University member of the Network should be included, or have been included at least for one year, in the QS ranking Top 50 under 50 or the THE ranking 100 under 50. They must be committed to keeping the spirit and mission that brought them to the ranking in the first place.

The induction of new members will be made by a proposal of one of the members of the Network and must be approved by the General Assembly. Membership will be reviewed every five years by the Assembly.

The Assembly of the Network will meet at least once a year at the members’ own travel expense. However, other models for funding may be arranged in specific cases, provided that they are consistent with applicable laws, regulations, and policies of the Parties.

YERUN Members

YERUN (Young European Research Universities) is a network of 18 European universities that are less than 50 years old. The organisation was founded in 2015 and strives to bring together excellent, young, research-oriented universities. All 18 members have been recognised for their excellence in research and teaching (e.g. Times Higher Education Ranking, Top 50 under 50 years).

The network works to find creative ways to promote innovative top-level research, excellence in university teaching and learning as well as quality assurance. Members benefit from cooperation in acquiring (EU) funding for multinational research projects and in promoting international mobility among its researchers and students.
