You now have to gather all the academic documents in order to prove the Embassy that you obtained a diploma, and an official translation of these documents. Here is what you need:

  • A legalised official certificate issued by the academic institution where you studied;
  • Original educational qualification which allows you to enroll to a two-year Master of Science programme. This must have already been legalised by the competent Authority of the issuing country, or with an Apostille stamp;
  • Some Italian Diplomatic Authorities could ask you for a Legal Italian translation of the above documents.
Once you have these three documents, you can go ahead to Step 4...

Step 4

Go to Diplomatic Authorities

Please Note: EACH ITALIAN DIPLOMATIC REPRESENTATION all over the World has its own deadline to submit pre-enrollment application!

  • Now that you received our Acceptance Letter (Step 1), you filled in Pre-enrolment form (Step 2), and you gathered your Academic Documents (Step 3) you should make two passport-sized photographs of you, signing one of them;

Authorities will now formalise your documents which means you are taking Step 5...

Step 5

Your Formalised Documents

  • The Italian authority should now issue the following documents:
  1. A legal italian translation of the University degree;
  2. The DOV - Dicharazione di Valore (Declaration of Value) of the University degree necessary for the final enrolment to all the Italian University;

Dichiarazione di Valore in loco (DoV)

The DOV is an official document which provides a short description of a certain academic or professional qualification, awarded to a specific person by an institution belonging to an educational system other than the Italian one.
The DOV usually includes the following information:

  • legal status and nature of the awarding institution;
  • requirements needed for admission to the programme ending in the qualification concerned;
  • length of the programme and/or global workload in hours/credits;
  • validity of the qualification in the awarding country to academic and/or professional ends.

DOVs are issued in Italian by the Italian diplomatic authorities outside Italy when they are provided with the following papers:

  1. Certified photocopy of the required original qualification document;
  2. Legal translation into Italian of the above qualification document.

    Please note:

  1. Italian diplomatic authorities issue the Dichiarazione di Valore on a foreign study qualification (original /certified photocopy) after it has been legalised by the competent authorites of the awarding country;
  2. Before issuing a DoV, Italian Diplomatic Authorities check the authenticity of the qualification concerned;
  3. The DoV may also prove useful for recognition purposes, both academic and professional, as well as to occupational ends (e.g. in case you wish to work in the private sector of the Italian labour market and, at the same time, avoid the procedures of legal recognition by equivalence).

Now you are ready for the final Step 6...

Step 6

Applying for Study Visa

  • You now must contact the Italian Authorities once again in order to apply for the study visa.
    You will need to provide them:
  1. Economic Means (amounting to Euro 447,61 per month for the whole academic year);
  2. Health Insurance Coverage (for emergencies and urgent hospitalisation);
  3. Acceptance Letter (the Italian version) sent by Master of Science Admissions Office.

Health insurance (non-EU citizens living outside Italy)

In Italy you might find yourself in need for medical care and/or hospitalisation. This is why, when applying for the study visa before living your country, you have to provide evidence of your capability to cover all your possible expenses related to medical assistance.
You may choose one of the following possibilities:

  • Obtain a consular statement confirming that you are entitled to medical care in consequence of an agreement between Italy and your home country;
  • Subscribe a private health insurance policy in your home country, and obtain from the competent Italian Consulate a statement of its validity for Italy; such a consular statement must also describe the length and types of services covered; besides it must confirm that the contract does not imply any limitations of or exceptions to the tariffs fixed for urgent hospitalization during the whole time period it may be necessary;
  • Subscribe a health insurance policy with an Italian body or company such as the Istituto Nazionale delle Assicurazioni (INA), which, thanks to an agreement with the Italian Ministry of Health, offers a special insurance policy to cover medical assistance; in case of an insurance policy stipulated with Italian bodies other than INA, it shall be supported by a statement issued by the insurance company concerned in confirmation that the contract does not imply any limitations of or exceptions to the tariffs fixed for urgent hospitalization during the whole time period it may be necessary.
