Annarita Manca

Joined the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission in 2016, where she works on resilience, the social impact of financial measures and fairness. From 2011 till 2016, she was statistics officer at the European Institute for Gender Equality where she was in charge of the development and the construction of the Gender Equality Index for the European Union. Previously, she was Scientific Officer at the JRC and Researcher at the University of Siena. She is a member of the Steering Group on She figures project lead by EC-DG Research, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Task Force on Indicators of Gender Equality and International Society for Quality-of-Life Studies (ISQOLS) Working Group on Composite Indicators.

She studied Political Science at the University of Cagliari (Italy) and later obtained a Ph.D in Applied Statistics at the University of Florence. She has been Visiting Fellow at Sussex University and at the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

As statistician she uses advanced quantitative methods applied to comparative social and economic analysis. She has done extensive work in the area of social cohesion, gender equality, labor market and education. She has published on social participation, deliberative democracy, active citizenship and early school leavers.
