Giulia Casentini obtained a PhD in Anthropology at the University of Siena (Italy) in 2011. She held a post-doc fellowship at the University of Pavia, Department of Political and Social Sciences, from 2011 to 2015, where she taught Political Anthropology. Since 2005 Giulia is conducting regular fieldwork in West Africa and in Italy; her most recent research topics are border management and border construction in West Africa, transnationality and identity construction, border crossing and mobility in Africa and Europe, trans-Saharan migration routes, Italy and the reception of migrant flows. She published several articles in national and international reviews, and she is the author of a book on borders and identity construction in Africa (Al di là del fiume. Storia e antropologia di un confine africano, Ghana-Togo, Roma, Viella, 2015).
