VAN DEN MAEGDENBERGH

Hi, my name is Dries Van den Maegdenbergh and I’m from Belgium. I studied a bachelor Economics in Antwerp. After graduation I moved to Berlin and Ghent to finish a master in International Business. I enrolled in this master because during this education I was mostly taught a one-sided positive vision of economics without any critics about the negative aspects of our capitalistic system, globalisation, mass consumption, . . . which really frustrated me. This because the growing inequality, the constant urge to mass profits, the systematic refusal of making structural political and economical changes, the global resource depletion and the worldwide pollution are subjects that are really important to me. Taking part in the MESCI-programme is a wonderful opportunity to improve my vision and knowledge within these themes, as I hope to pursue as one of the economics to help and think about a different future.
