Marina Mendes Tavares

Joined the IMF in January 2014 as an Economist in the Developing Market Unit of the Strategy, Policy and Review Department. Marina is the leader of the inequality group in the IMF-DFID collaboration. During these three years, some of the work developed by the group includes Article IV consultations and SIP of several developing and advanced countries (i.e., Ethiopia 2015, Malawi 2015, Bolivia 2016, Congo 2016, Dominica 2017, Brazil 2017, and United States 2017). Prior to her current appointment, Marina was an Assistant Professor for two years at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de Mexico (Mexico). Marina received her Ph.D. degree in Economics in 2011 from the University of Minnesota. Marina’s academic research has focused not only on inequality issues, but also in intergenerational mobility, labor market issues, and firm dynamics.
