Jürgen Matthes
has been with the Cologne Institute for Economic Research since 1995. He has been head of the research unit International Economics and Economic Outlook since 2015. Before, he headed the International Economic Order research unit and worked as a researcher in International Economic Policy as well as New Economy. In his first position at the Cologne Institute for Economic Research, he was personal assistant to the director from 1995 to 2000. He studied Economics in Dortmund and Dublin. Jürgen Matthes has published on a wide variety of topics covering EMU, current account imbalances in the euro area, structural change, International competitiveness, pros and cons of globalization, trade policy, and the global financial crisis.
