Luigi Bonatti studied philosophy at the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa  (Italy) and got a Ph.D. in economics at Columbia University (USA) under  the supervision of E.S. Phelps. He is currently professor of economics at  the University of Trento (Italy). In recent years he was visiting at the University of California Berkeley (USA) and at Tsinghua University (China). His most recent publications focus on open macroeconomics and international economics, growth theory and sustainable development.
