Accomodation:

We would like to advise students to book housing as soon as possible since "unfortunately“ there might be a very high demand of accommodation for the academic year 2025/26 again. To book housing is indipended of the registration / application at Innsbruck university. More information in the Fact Sheet.

Some advice for students:

• Unfortunately, in the past, many students did not take the situation seriously, even though they were requested to apply immediately.  Students must understand that the situation is extremely extraordinary;
• As soon as students know that they are nominated for Innsbruck, they should instantly apply to the dorms;
• Some dorms have already opened their online applications;
• Students should apply to the ÖAD, which is a student housing agency;
• They should also apply to the dorms directly, not just one, and not only to popular dorms. Applying to dorms has become a job (unfortunately)
• As soon as the students are nominated, we send them a list of dorms with the request to start applying for housing
• The housing application is separate from the university application, so students can apply in advance. It might be that they need a confirmation from the sending institution that they will / be nominated for Innsbruck as an exchange student.
• Students should answer instantly as soon as they receive an offer
• The worst case, if the student does not come for an exchange to Innsbruck, would be that the student loses the administration fee, which is around 35 euros, and will only be requested to pay as soon as a room is offered.
• Students should be careful by applying for private accommodation on Facebook or similar platforms. There are a lot of fake offers, and students have already lost money.
• Students should never transfer money outside Austria; the IBAN code should always start with AT.
• It is also important and supportive that students cancel all other applications as soon as housing is secured and the place becomes free.
• We ask students about their housing status periodically, and unfortunately, some never respond, which makes support difficult. Therefore, we strongly request that students respond to our emails.
• In the past, we spent a lot of time supporting the students, and in the end, we secured a room for all remaining searching students, thanks to our strong relationship with some of the dorm's management. But we can only start intervening at the end of November / end of August - and this is very stressful for students.

(*) Language requirements: German and English. Incoming Exchange students must provide evidence of sufficient knowledge of the German language by means of test scores or other appropriate evidence, to ensure that they are enabled to follow the courses in German they intend to take.
