Practical Information

ITALIAN TAX CODE

The Italian Tax Code (Codice Fiscale) is a personal alphanumeric code (combination of numbers and letters) which identifies each individual person in Italy. This code is required when dealing with public offices and/or the public administration, as well as when renting an apartment/room.

The Tax Code (Codice Fiscale) is issued by the Agenzia delle Entrate, and an appointment must be booked through the following link (request for your tax code).

HEALTH INSURANCE

Before your arrival, make sure you are properly covered in case you need medical care during your stay in Italy.

EU citizens can use the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), which entitles the holder to get necessary treatments at the same cost as a citizen of that country. The card is valid only for state-provided services, as private health insurance is not covered.

Non-EU citizens are strongly recommended to have health insurance coverage with international validity. In order to get the Permit of Stay, you will be asked to prove that you are covered against the cost of medical treatments for the entire duration of your stay in Italy.

STUDENT VISA

EU Citizens: citizens of a country belonging to the EU are exempt from a VISA to enter Italy;
Non-EU Citizens:
Non-EU exchange students must apply for a Student Visa before coming to Italy. To learn more about visa application deadlines and requirements, check https://vistoperitalia.esteri.it/?lang=en_US

Some Embassies and Consulates may have different processes and requirements for the Student Visa application process. Please contact your designated Embassy or Consulate to verify these requirements.
