Founded in 2015, the Department of Economics and Finance (DEF) is a training center in the economic and financial field of the University of Rome "Tor Vergata". The DEF aspires to produce international-level research in the fields of economics, finance and quantitative methods, to offer its students cutting-edge education in methods and content. The DEF was selected by the Ministry of University and Research among the Departments of Excellence both in the five-year period 2018-2022 and in the five-year period 2023-2027.

The Department is part of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Rome Tor Vergata and offers Bachelor's Degrees, Master's Degrees, First Level Masters, Second Level Masters and Doctorate programs in the economic and financial disciplines, both in Italian and English

The Department appears at the top of some of the most important Italian (VQR) and international (RePEc, QS, Tilburg) rankings for the study of Economics, Finance and Statistics. The Department specializes in the following research areas: economic theory, applied economics, econometrics, economic history, economic statistics, financial mathematics. The Department is one of the MIUR Departments of Excellence for the period 2018-2022.
