There are many scholarship opportunities for students in Rome, and students who apply for scholarships abroad will be pleased to know that the Italian public universities' low tuition fees and the many forms of scholarships and financial aid help students to achieve their academic objectives and transform the idea of studying abroad into a reality. When students choose to study in Italy or to study in Rome, they are likely to discover a world of opportunities that they might not have access to in their home country. Below, students will find a list of scholarships, prizes and financial aid opportunities for students enrolling in the Master of Science degree in European Economy and Business Law.


EEBL Project Prize

In order to promote academic excellence, EEBL offers annual awards for students who are interested in furthering their education or professional training at prestigious institutions, universities and companies.

Top Graduates Prize

For students who have consistently performed well throughout their two years of studies, EEBL offers an award of excellence for two top graduates with a first-place prize of €1.000,00 and a second-place prize of €500,00.

To promote excellence, EEBL awards prizes to first-year students who earn the highest number of CFU with the best GPA during their first year of study. The scholarship awards are distributed evenly among the top-performing students. Students are notified each year when the call is published.

Need-based Scholarships and Financial Aid

LazioDiSCo

Lazio Region Scholarships are offered through DISCOLazio with annual financial aid opportunities for foreign and Italian students. In order to facilitate deserving students without sufficient financial resources, the Lazio Region provides scholarships to all students who wish to enrol at universities and who intend to achieve, for the first time, a bachelor degree, master of science degree, or who plan to enrol in a Ph.D programme.

INPS Scholarships

INPS Scholarships provide financial support for Italian students during the course of their studies. Every year, INPS scholarships are awarded to winners who receive partial reimbursement for expenses incurred while in school. The competition is open to students whose parents work/worked for the Italian public administration. The award is given based on merit as well as the ISEE indicator for financial need. The Institute awards scholarships through two annual calls for applications: generally issued between the last quarter of the year and the first quarter of the following year. The scholarships are available for education at a post-secondary level, university, postgraduate studies and professional training.

Invest Your Talent Scholarships

The Invest Your Talent in Italy scholarships are aimed at target students from specific focus countries who will be offered an academic programme followed by an internship with an Italian company. The promoters and the participating companies will award scholarships for students to attend master degree programmes in Economics. The scholarships are open to students from Azerbaijan, Brasil, Colombia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Mexica, People Republic of China, Tunisia, Turkey, Vietnam. Application deadline is  February each year.

SIDI

SIDI (Società Italiana di Diritto Internazionale e di Diritto dell'Unione Europea), aiming to diffuse knowledge about international law, annually awards a prize to young, studious Italians, who have graduated from university no more than 10 years ago, for the best article written on international public law, international private law or EU law, published in the year 2024 in a scientific magazine or within a published series of works (monographic works will be excluded from consideration).  Application deadline is February each year.


PhD. Scholarship Opportunities

UniCredit Crivelli Europe Scholarship

The Crivelli Europe scholarships are awarded to young graduates in economics, banking or finance from any European university within UniCredit perimeter, who wish to take PhD courses abroad at any university in the world. In addition, UniCredit Foundation will award 1 special Crivelli Grant aimed at a partial support to a PhD abroad. Each scholarship globally amounts to €65,000 (gross of taxes) for a two-year duration and includes any tuition fees. The scholarship is annual, renewable for a second year and is incompatible with any other scholarships. The special Crivelli Grant amounts to €20,000 (gross of taxes) and is aimed at a partial support to a PhD abroad. November application deadline each year.

Bank of Italy Scholarships

The Bank of Italy has provided the "Bonaldo Stringher", "Giorgio Mortara" and "Donato Menichella" scholarships to enable young graduates to perfect their studies in the specific thematic fields of interest of the Institute specified within each scholarship. To be eligible, students must attend a master or doctoral programme with an expected duration of not less than 9 months, at the candidate's choice. The chosen programme must be in line with the studies carried out and consistent with the thematic field of the type of scholarship for which the student is competing.
Those who possess the following prerequisites can participate in the competition for the awarding of the scholarships:
• Italian citizenship or another EU Member State or other citizenship according to the provisions of art. 38 of Legislative Decree 165/2001;
• Master's degree/specialization or four-year degree or higher degree - with a score of not less than 110/110 - at an Italian university or institute;
• Excellent knowledge of the foreign language used in the university courses chosen for the use of the scholarship.
The requirements set out in the previous points must be held on the due date established for the submission of the application.
The application must be presented - complete with the requested documentation - in October each year, using only the application available on the Bank of Italy's website following the instructions specified therein.

American Association of University Women

The American Association of University Women awards International Fellowships to provide support for women pursuing full-time graduate or postdoctoral study in the U.S. who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. A limited number of awards are available for study outside of the U.S. (excluding the applicant’s home country) to women who are members of Graduate Women International (see the list of GWI affiliates). Preference is given to women who show prior commitment to the advancement of women and girls through civic, community, or professional work. Up to five International Fellowships for master’s/first professional degrees will be renewable for a second year; fellows will receive application information for this competitive program during their fellowship year. Applications open 1 August and close on 15 November each year

UniCredit Marco Fanno PhD Scholarships

The Marco Fanno scholarship is aimed at students in economics, banking sciences or finance enrolled in any Italian university wishing to enroll in a research doctorate program abroad. The scholarship is annual and renewable for a second year. The total amount of the grant amounts to € 65,000 (before taxes) and includes any tuition fees. Gates Cambridge Scholarships

The Gates Cambridge Scholarships are one of the most prestigious international scholarships in the world. Scholarships are awarded to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. A Gates Cambridge Scholarship covers the full cost of studying at Cambridge including tuition fees, maintenance allowance, travel costs, etc. It also provides additional, discretionary funding such as academic development funding, family allowance, fieldwork, etc. Applications open in autumn each year. The application deadline for round one will be announced shortly. 

Aga Khan Foundation

The Aga Khan Foundation provides a limited number of scholarships each year for postgraduate studies to outstanding students from select developing countries who have no other means of financing their studies, in order to develop effective scholars and leaders and to prepare them for employment, primarily within the AKDN. Scholarships are awarded on a 50% grant: 50% loan basis through a competitive application process once a year in June or July. The Foundation gives priority to requests for Master's level courses but is willing to consider applications for PhD programmes, only in the case of outstanding students who are highly recommended for doctoral studies by their professors and who need a PhD for the fulfilment of their career objectives (academic or research oriented). March application deadline each year.

UniCredit US Ph.D. Scholarships

UniCredit US Ph.D. Scholarships are available and allow three students to attend a Ph.D. programme in economics or finance in the United States during the 2019/20 academic year. The competition is addressed to graduates from any of the 14 countries of UniCredit perimeter, (Italy, Germany, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Turkey) and the competition is aimed at graduates who would like to attend a Ph.D. programme in economics or finance at one of the five most prestigious universities in the United States: 1) University of Chicago Booth School of Business; 2) Harvard University Department of Economics; 3) MIT Department of Economics;4) Princeton University Department of Economics; 5) Stanford University Department of Economics. The scholarships are annual and renewable for a second year. Each scholarship amounts to €65,000 (or equivalent) gross of taxes for the entire 2-year period and includes university tuition fees (if any), travel expenses and health insurance. To apply, candidates must follow the online admission procedures to the Ph.D. courses as described in the universities websites. Each university will then send a short-list of their top admitted candidates to the foundation and the scientific committee of the foundation will select the winners.

Asian Development Bank/Japan Scholarship Program

The Asian Development Bank/Japan Scholarship Program (JSP) offers about 150 postgraduate scholarships a year for studies in economics, management, science and technology, and other development-related fields at participating academic institutions. The scholarship provides full tuition fees, a monthly allowance for expenses, housing, books and instructional materials, medical insurance and travel. For scholars engaged in research, a special grant may be available for thesis preparation. In special circumstances, computer literacy, preparatory language and other similar courses may be covered under the scholarship. Application deadlines are only those for application into the chosen PhD programme, as each university will send eligible candidates' names directly to the scholarship programme office for consideration.

Fulbright - Self Placed All Disciplines

Fulbright - Self Placed All Disciplines offers Italian graduates the opportunity to earn a master’s degree or a Ph.D., at US universities each year. The competition is open to graduates who have already applied for admission to American campuses to pursue their master’s degree or Ph.D. degree. Fulbright - Self Placed will finance the first academic year only.  Fulbright - Law Self Placed offers Italian graduates the opportunity to earn a master’s degree or a Ph.D. in law at American universities. The competition is open to graduates who have applied for admission to American campuses to pursue their master’s degree or Ph.D. degree.


Thesis Awards

Società Italiana di Diritto Internazionale e di Diritto dell'Unione Europea

Società Italiana di Diritto Internazionale e di Diritto dell'Unione Europea (SIDI) offers the Daniele Padovani Prize of €3.000 which is awarded to the best bachelor degree thesis presented every academic year on the subject of international trial law and private law. In addition to the monetary prize, the candidate also have the opportunity to participate in a paid three-month internship at the offices of DLA Piper in Italy. The application deadline is in February each year.


Research Awards and Fellowships

Chevening Scholarships and Fellowships

Chevening is the UK Government’s international awards scheme aimed at developing global leaders. Funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations, Chevening offers two types of award – Chevening Scholarships and Chevening Fellowships – the recipients of which are personally selected by British embassies and high commissions throughout the world. Chevening Scholarships are an important element of Britain’s public diplomacy effort and bring professionals, who have already displayed outstanding leadership talents, to study in the UK. The objective of Chevening is to support foreign policy priorities and achieve FCO objectives by creating lasting positive relationships with future leaders, influencers, and decision-makers. Applications are open from August to December each year.
