General Management presents a lesson by Bernardo Nicoletti

Next December 5th at 2pm in room P57 Professor Corrado Cerruti's course in General Management will feature a guest speaker: Mr. Bernardo Nicoletti will guest lecture students of Business Administration with a lesson about the impact of digitalization across industries. Mr. Nicoletti is specialized in IT Management and Coaching, especially for medium size companies. Also he is the author of 15 books on Management, has been a frequent speaker in International Conferences and published 200 articles in domestic and international Reviews.

The lecture in brief

In order to be competitive in today's world it is essential for any organization to start or complete a digital transformation. It is important to discuss what a digital transformation means and how it should be implemented in several types of industries, since the digital transformation does depend on the sector in which the organizations works.

The lesson will start with a discussion about what a digital transformation is exactly, thus how this transformation applies to manufacturing companies. In this case, the transformation has been labeled as Industry 4.0. This initiative was born in Germany but it is spreading worldwide and has recently been sponsored also by the Italian government.

Similar development applies to the field of financial services. In this case, there are several developments. The most important initiatives are in the direction of mobile banking and digital insurance. The disruptive innovation in financial services is connected with the new initiatives in terms of the so-called “Fintech”.

The lecturer shall describe some interesting initiatives in digital transformation in some Italian organizations. It is important to discuss about the challenges and the opportunities introduced by any digital transformation. Finally, Mr. Nicoletti will present some of the tools necessary to support the digital transformation.

About the speaker: Bernardo Nicoletti

Bernardo Nicoletti was born in Salerno, Italy.  He graduated from the Polytechnic School of Turin, Italy and has an MSEE from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, USA.  He worked for Alitalia Airlines, Sigma Plus, Galileo International and Airplus, working in Italy and in the UK.  He joined GE in 1997 and had assignments in Rome, Italy, and Leeds, UK, with GE Money as Program Manager for the implementation of a Common Receivable System. 

In February 2002, he was named Chief Technology Officer of GE Money and later Acting CIO. In 2006, he moved as Global CIO of GE Oil & Gas. From July 2008 until July 2009, he has been CIO Latin America working for AIG UPC. Bernardo is specialized in IT Management and Coaching, especially for medium size companies. In all his positions, Bernardo has been particularly active in Lean Six Sigma as a way to reduce costs and improve quality, bringing value to the Business.

He calls his approach “Lean & Digitize” and over time has developed a specific methodology on this respect. He is the author of 15 books on Management, has been a frequent speaker in International Conferences and published 200 articles in domestic and international Reviews.
