For over a decade, the library has been hosting a cultural space called the Library Common Room. This space originated with the establishment of a reading club (2009), through which the library joined the literary prize created by the Rome Library Institution , with the aim of promoting and disseminating literature through the practice of shared reading.
Since 2016, the Club has expanded its activities by participating in the John Fante Opera Debut Award as a pre-selection jury.
The Reading Circle continues its independent journey, but over the years it has become part of a broader cultural and educational project, aimed at promoting initiatives to disseminate and share knowledge among students, faculty, and staff at the University, addressing issues arising from both academia itself and broader civil society. Each topic is subjected to critical, problematic, and shared reflection by the participants, who, regardless of their diverse expertise, are placed on equal footing within the university community.
The Living Room is therefore a place where priorities are shared, and people collaborate in the planning and organization of activities, pooling knowledge, passions and interests.
The salon organizes and hosts events, seminars, film clubs, exhibitions, book presentations, and workshops, sometimes in collaboration with student associations, master's and doctoral programs, and civil society leaders.
Experience over the years has shown that the project has fully responded to widespread interest. The Salotto has now evolved from a project into a permanent cultural hub, an important gathering place, capable of strengthening a sense of belonging to an institution of high culture, experienced as a personal space as well as a work and study environment. It is also one of the ways in which the library fulfills its role as an active participant in education and learning processes.
