Abstract
This PhD thesis studies how economic policies and firms’ strategies respond to major crises and structural shocks in the global economy. The first chapter analyzes the effects of the Federal Reserve’s quasi-fiscal interventions during the Covid-19 crisis using high-frequency county-level data, showing that these tools had faster and stronger impacts on consumption and employment than conventional monetary policy, but also increased spatial inequality. The second chapter examines firms’ adjustment to trade disintegration following Brexit, highlighting heterogeneous effects across sectors and firms. The third chapter explores micro-level mechanisms shaping global value chain resilience.
