Visiting Abroad

The University promotes the internationalisation of the PhD programme degree by developing forms of collaboration with foreign Universities and Research centres, as well as via participation in international research projects and programmes.

Foreign stays
PhD students have an opportunity to spend periods of study and research at foreign Universities and research bodies.
The amount of the scholarship for PhD students is uplifted up to 50% for periods of at least 30 continuous days spent abroad, for at least 3 months.
PhD students may also obtain mobility incentives by participating in the following programmes: Erasmus+ Study and/or Internship Mobility (Call in January), and Thesis Research Abroad (Call in October-November).

PhD programme degree with foreign Universities
The University signs agreements with foreign Universities in order to encourage the internationalisation of the PhD programme degree.

Co-tutorship framework agreements
The framework agreements signed with foreign Universities, covering one or more PhD programme degrees, assure scientific collaboration over the medium-long term. They establish general terms for the collaboration between the two bodies and envisage the subsequent signature of individual co-tutorship agreements.

Individual co-tutorships
Individual co-tutorships are bilateral agreements between the University of Rome "Tor Vergata" and a foreign University. They are signed for the purpose of establishing a training path for an individual PhD student enrolled at one of the two partner Universities.

For further information, see Co-tutorship agreements for PhD students enrolled at foreign Universities.

Mobility framework agreements
Mobility framework agreements with foreign Universities cover the mobility of PhD students, in order to:

  • facilitate spending periods of time at the partner University;
  • develop joint research projects;
  • create networks of scientific cooperation.
