Costa Giulia

University of Rome Tor Vergata

Giulia Costa is a post doctoral grant researcher at the Department of Civil Engineering and Computer Science Engineeering of the University of Rome Tor Vergata, where she is also a contract professor of the course of Environmental and Sanitary Engineering. She received a Master's Degree in Environmental Engineering in 2005 from the University of Rome Sapienza with an experimental thesis carried out at the Danish Technical University and a PhD in Environmental Engineering in 2009 from the University of Rome Tor Vergata. During her PhD she carried out a research period at ETH Zurich. In 2013 she was awarded the national scientific qualification to function as associate professor of environmental and sanitary engineering in Italian universities.
Her research activities are focused on the valorization of waste materials and specifically regard the management and treatment of waste and industrial residues, the capture and storage of carbon dioxide by carbonation of alkaline residues and life cycle analysis. She participated in the EU Life+ research project UP-grading of landfillGAS for LOWering CO2 emissions, in the EU FP7 research project Holistic Management of Brownfield Regeneration and in the CoE 25 project “BIO-safety, BIO-security, BIOrisk management knowledge development and transfer of best practices”, funded by the European Commission – DG DEVCO (Development and Cooperation) in the framework of the “EU CBRN Risk Mitigation Centres Of Excellence” initiative.She was an invited speaker at the International workshop on Industrial Biotechnology organized by COMSTECH at Islamabad (Pakistan) in 2012 and participated as instructor in the Erasmus Intensive Program on Sustainable Construction - Principles, Tools and Methods held in Cyprus in July 2011.
She has authored more than 80 publications, over 25 of which in international peer-reviewed journals. She was nominated for the ISCOWA (International Society for the Environmental and Technical Implications of Construction with Alternative Materials) award in June 2015.
