ADVANCED MANAGEMENT
Syllabus

The course explores the ways managers interpret the business environment in order to achieve and sustain competitive advantage. Managers deal with complexity and technical issues, as decisions are interconnected and impact across different functions (production, marketing, finance, human resources). Accordingly, the course offers a clear understanding of the contemporary thoughts in advanced management and the related issues.
Topics covered will be:

Digital Transformation
Open Innovation
Change Management
Corporate Social Responsibility
These topics will provide a solid theoretical basis for students, that will learn to recognise and evaluate techniques, practices and challenges that a business is required to used in the strategic arena.
Facing contemporary issues as discussed in academic and practical context, students will critically analyse and evaluate the role of management within the context of change (i.e. digital innovation).
Students will be also involved in interacting learning by group presentations about specific topics. Lectures will be also participated by the class through the use of interactive learning tool in order to improve the learning process and the interaction between lecturer and the class.
Learning Outcome
The course aims to provide a conceptual understanding the key issues that need to be considered when managers design, plan and execute strategies. The course has a specific focus on change and innovation management such as the impact of digital technologies on organizations. At the end students should be able to:
- think in a strategic way about the different choices organizations deal with, while competing in the business environment;
- apply the technical tools and the conceptual frameworks learned to real business situations;
- understand what change means under a complex and uncertain business scenario.
Knowledge and Understanding
Develop an understanding of management and its role within the organizations. Acquire approaches and tools useful for managers and managing organizational issues under uncertain and dynamic environment
Applying Knowledge and Understanding
Apply the managerial approaches to specific corporate context, included the specific area of change and innovation.
Making Judgements
Evaluate the competitive scenario using a set of alternative models and, based on these considerations, propose a business or corporate strategy in order to align organization to the competitive environment.
Communication Skills
Communicate the analysis and the proposals in discussions and group presentations.
Learning Skills
Develop searching skills so to find relevant information in the cases and prioritizing skills so to detect the few relevant issues.
Assessment
The final exam is different for attending and not attending students.
