General exam rules - Academic Year 2019-2020
Assessment method
Written and oral exam on the whole program.
The written exam is articulated in two sections:
- Section 1: 50% of the final exam grade.
- Section 2: 50% of the final exam grade.
Minimum qualifying grade required to get credits: 18/30.
Exam length on each section: 1 hour and 15 minutes.
There will be a 15-minute break between the first and the second part. Therefore the overall written exam session will last about 3 hours.
Oral exam
- The oral exam will consist of a brief discussion of the written exam. Following this discussion the grade can be reduced, but not increased.
Specific exam rules and recap of the assessment method
- The final exam consists of a compulsory written (closed book!) exam covering the entire course’s material and of a a short oral exam consisting of a discussion of the written exam. Both written and oral exams must be taken during the same exam call, unless you have taken and passed the pre-exam. Minimum qualifying grade required to get credit: 18/30.
- In the Winter session students can take the written exam twice. In December there will a first exam call covering the whole program. Students who fail the first exam call, and students who pass it but are not satisfied with their grade, can resit for the exam in January.
- Students can take the written exam only once per session in the Summer session, unless they opt to withdraw before the end of the exam.
- Students cannot retake the written exam in the Summer session even if it is passed, but the grade is not accepted.
- Take home exams are not allowed.
- Students must take the exam at University during a regular exam session. Ad personam exceptions are not possible.
- The final grade is computed as follows: 0.5*grade_final_exam_on_section_1+0.5*grade_final_exam_on_section_2. As a result of the oral exam, the grade of the written exam could be confirmed or reduced up to 3 points
- In the case of a result equal to XX.5 the grade will be rounded up to XX+1
- For the formal registration on the DELPHI system all students MUST formally accept the final grade by showing up in person in the due date and by signing the exam registry (i.e. the date indicated for the oral exam). If you do not show up on the due date and pass the oral exam, your grade will NOT be registered on the DELPHI system. In other words, without the oral exam and any formal acceptance of the final grade on your part, the grade will not be recorded (in the entry of your exam result on the DELPHI system you will read "ritirato" withdrawn).

Other rules and information
- Students with learning disabilities or specific needs related to chronic diseases must refer to the CARIS office .
- Non-attending students are responsible to make up all work missed. Office hours are devoted to clarifications not to private lessons.
- Rules are here to be respected by everyone, not just by diligent students.
- Professors have the same time constraint and patience of ordinary human beings, therefore e-mails asking for exceptions or for information, that can be deduced by reading the contents of the course webpage, will be systematically disregarded. See my e-mail policy here.
- Division of labour is a fundamental principle that governs every institution. Therefore for any administrative quibbles or matters students must refer to the administrative offices (i.e. transfers to or from other University or programme, exam validation, administrative delays or deficiencies, graduation dates, clashes of examination dates etc…). E-mails on these matters will be disregarded as well. If my academic advise or preapproval is required, be aware that I will not deal directly with students and the relevant information and documentation should be transmitted to me by the office in charge of the procedure.
Erasmus students
If you are an Erasmus student and Tor Vergata is your host University, you are welcome to attend this course if you wish. All the exam rules apply to you.
If you plan to take this course abroad, please be aware of the following:
- Economics of European Integration & Economic Integration of Structural Reforms is a unique course granting 12 ECTS.
- In general this course does not have a corresponding course in any of the host university, therefore for formal academic recognition of this course taken abroad you have to find one or more courses which are similar in terms of contents.
- It is your responsibility to look at the course content summary and find possible matches with the courses taught at the host university.
- Recall that this is a course for graduate students, therefore the courses you will choose must be for Master students or for fourth-year undergraduate students.
- Once you have found a list of possible corresponding courses, you must contact the Programme Office and provide all the relevant information needed to verify whether the courses you plan to take are eligible or not for validation.
- Remind that validation of an exam taken abroad is the final outcome of an administrative procedure that requires the respect of specific and formal standards in the lack of which recognition cannot be granted. Students must always refer to the Erasmus Office, to the Students Administrative Office (Segreteria Studenti) and to the Programme Office and verify with them if all these standards are met.
