Specific training objectives and description of the academic program
The program is designed to meet the demand of students interested in training on advanced topics in European studies and who wish to pursue careers at the international level in:
1) supranational institutions;
2) national institutions:
3) private enterprises, open to international trade and commerce;
4) public enterprises, open to international comparison as part of their institutional mandate;
5) non-Italian private and public institutions, operating within or interacting with the European Union.
The program aims to train graduates with an adequate cultural preparation, interdisciplinary skills and qualifying knowledge in the field of economics and management of European institutions, taking care to provide specialized business, economic, legal, political and historical elements that are useful to the understanding of the functioning of public and private organizations in the European context. It provides the fundamental tools and interpretive models for knowledge of European institutional systems and their environments of reference for the purpose of a more mature understanding of the behavior of institutional actors within the European Union and of the management and control of political and regulatory processes, including following the most recent institutional and jurisprudential developments.
The Master's Degree is spread over two years and includes introductory courses and a final project. The core courses provided by the Degree, totaling 60 CFUs, are divided into three characterizing areas:
- economic-statistics which includes the subject areas SECS-P01 of political economy, SECS-P02 of economic policy, SECS-P03 of financial science, SECS-P06 of applied economics, SECS-S01 of statistics and SECS-S03 of economic statistics;
- legal which includes IUS-04 of business law, IUS-05 of economic law, IUS-09 of institutions of law, IUS-13 of international law and IUS-14 of European Union law;
- history, which includes SECS-P12 of economic history and SECS-P04 of history of economic thought.
Additional core subjects are related to related subject areas and are represented by IUS-10 of administrative law, SECS-P07 of business administration, SECS-P08 of economics and business management, SECS-P10 of business organization and SECS-P11 of economics of financial intermediaries. Furthermore, the coursework includes 6 CFU of extra activities and 12 CFU of elective activities and concludes with a final thesis for 24 CFU.
The lectures are complemented by seminars conducted by representatives from institutions, the purpose of which is to deepen students' knowledge of specific aspects through practical cases. Students are encouraged and supported to carry out internships so as to gain practical experience and ensure a connection with the world of work. Together with the provision of knowledge related to the different subjects in lectures, the Course aims at the development of skills and soft skills, which are increasingly important today, through practical teaching methods involving greater student participation (simulations of business cases and situations, simulations of trials at the Court of Justice, etc.). In particular, for the purpose of developing skills suitable for the profile of expert in law and economics, the course pays attention to the development of the following skills useful for inclusion in the professional fields chosen by graduates: moral integrity, relational qualities, resilience, problem-solving skills.
