Call for Applications 2021/2022

Applications for the A.Y. 2021/22 are now CLOSED.

The Master of Science in Finance and Banking (Laurea Magistrale - LM 16)  is a two-year program of quantitative methods for finance, entirely taught in English and designed for students who wish to study mathematical and statistical techniques applied to financial markets.

The admission process is based on two steps of selection:

  • 1st step: Education background evaluation through the online application
  • 2nd step: Skype Interview

To be admitted to the program, students must have an adequate knowledge of mathematics, economics, and statistics at undergraduate level.

Students may apply for admission even if they have not yet earned/completed their Bachelor degree. If admitted, students must enroll and pay the first instalment of tuition fees by early November 2021.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Admission to the Master of Science in Finance and Banking requires:

1) Knowledge of mathematics, economics and statistics at undergraduate level;

2) An Italian degree (ex. DM 270 /04) in:

  • L-8 Ingegneria dell’informazione
  • L-16 Scienze dell’amministrazione e dell’organizzazione
  • L-18 Scienze dell’economia e della gestione aziendale
  • L-30 Scienze e tecnologie fisiche
  • L-31 Scienze e tecnologie informatiche
  • L-33 Scienze economiche
  • L-35 Scienze matematiche
  • L-41 Statistica

or an italian degree (ex DM 509/99) in the subjects equivalent to those listed above. Note: Students may apply for admission even if they have not yet earned/completed their Bachelor degree.

For applicants who graduated from a non-Italian University, the Admission Board will ascertain the equivalence between the non-Italian and the Italian degree.

For applicants who do not meet the entry requirements, the Admission Board will verify whether they hold the skills and competencies needed, such as an undergraduate university degree with a strong quantitative background. Generally speaking, a strong quantitative background means: Economics, Business, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Engineering.

ADMISSION PROCESS

The admission process will be based on two steps of selection:

  • FIRST STEP: Education background evaluation through the online application
  • SECOND STEP: Skype Interview

Only candidates who meet the entry requirements will be invited to a Skype Interview to assess their knowledge in mathematics and statistics. Candidates with a good GRE/GMAT score on the quantitative section may be exempted from the Skype Interview. Please note that candidates cannot re-apply for the same academic year.


FIRST STEP - ONLINE APPLICATION

The education background evaluation will be carried out online through Delphi system and all applicants will be required to pay an application fee of 30 euros (non-refundable). The application form must be submitted in English. No paper applications will be accepted. Only candidates who successfully complete the online application - attaching all the required documents (pdf format) - and pay the application fee by the specified deadlines and conditions (payment validation) are admitted to the selection procedure. Candidates who will miss one of the previous steps will not be taken into consideration.

APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

COMPULSORY DOCUMENTS:

  • Copy of valid Passport/ID
  • High School Diploma: you must upload your high school diploma certificate (in english or in the original language of education).
    Note:
    If you do not have the original document, you can upload a self-declaration indicating the name of the School, the course type, the date of achievement and the final grade.
  • Official Transcript of Exams: you must upload the official document issued by the university, in Italian or in English (different languages are not accepted), that contains the name of the university, the bachelor program and the list of the exams and grades achieved.
  • Curriculum Vitae: (in English) the Admissions Board will evaluate the information included in the CV and verify the applicant's overall profile, experience, and knowledge.

OPTIONAL DOCUMENTS:

  • Cover Letter: in English, strongly recommended.
  • English Language Certificate, minimum level B2. Accepted International Certifications not older than 3 years: IELTS (min. score: 6), TOEFL, FIRST, CAE, Cambridge tests, CLA certificate, Erasmus certificate.
    Note: Applicants who do not own an English certificate can apply. The Admission Board will evaluate their CVs and transcript of records and, if the evaluation is positive, the knowledge of English will be assessed at the Skype interview.
  • Reference Letter: recommended. Candidates may indicate, in the specific section, the name and the institutional email address of the referee. Once the contact details of the referee are inserted, the system will automatically send out a request to the referee for uploading the reference letter. The referee should follow the instructions in the automated reply.
  • GRE or GMAT: if you wish, you may include GRE or GMAT results in your application, which may be relevant for evaluation purposes. Candidates with a good GRE/GMAT score on the quantitative section may be exempted from the Skype Interview.

Once the online application has been submitted, the members of the Admission Board verify if the candidate meets the entry requirements and will decide whether to reject or invite the candidate for a Skype interview.

SECOND STEP - SKYPE INTERVIEW

Candidates who meet the entry requirements will be invited to a Skype Interview to assess their knowledge. 

Participants will be contacted by email to schedule the interview. If you submit the online application by the 20th of the month you will be interviewed in the last week of the month.

The interview for admission is held in English and exclusively via Skype. It is aimed at verify the applicants’ knowledge in mathematics and statistics, and the English language knowledge; it lasts around 30 minutes. REQUIREMENTS FOR MATEMATICS AND STATISTICS

The Admission Board will communicate the result (Admitted/Rejected) by e-mail two weeks after the interview.

IN CASE OF ADMISSION

All admitted applicants, once they have received the Acceptance Letter, must send an email to the Admissions Office msc_finance@economia.uniroma2.it to communicate their decision to confirm (or forego) enrollment in our program. We encourage students to stay informed and visit our website often for periodic updates.

Enrollment usually begins in early September and the first deadline is in early November. Non-EU admitted students with a foreign degree must graduate by the pre-enrollment deadline that is established by the Italian Embassy in their country. EU admitted students and all admitted students with an Italian degree must graduate by our enrollment deadline date (early November 2021).

All admitted students must be at Tor Vergata University for the beginning of the program (30 August 2021). The Admissions Office in July will provide detailed information (such as arrival, enrollment period, welcome meeting, course schedule) to all students.
