CARIS - Students with disabilities

Services for students with disabilities or Specific Learning Difficulties (SLD): the CARIS Commission

The CARIS commission provides services to encourage a full and active participation to the academic life of students with disabilities, specific learning difficulties or temporary difficulties. CARIS offers: tutoring services and personal guidance on campus and in the classroom, loan services for text books and computer equipment, software and specific technological aids, sign Language interpreters or stenotypes for hearing impaired students, assistance for entry exams to degree courses, speech therapy available for students with speech impediments and learning disabilities in order to prepare students for exams, counseling services for psychological and emotional needs, total exemption of university fees for students with certified disability higher than 66%, partial exemption for students with certified disability between 46% and 65%, transportation services with vehicles equipped for students with disabilities upon request. Also CARIS promotes cultural and sports activities such as theater classes, sailing, writing, painting classes and indoor and outdoor sports.

Total Exemption from Tuition Fees (disability equal or greater than 66%)

The students with recognized disability equal or greater than 66% or with recognition of a disability according to the Article 3, comma 1 and 3 of the Law n° 104 of the 5th of February 1992, are totally exempt from University Fees for the first enrollment and for the enrollment to the following years. The disability have to be demonstrated through the documentation issued by the competent authority and have to be submitted to the CARIS (via the Politecnico, 1 – School of Engineering).

Instruction for the total exemption procedure:

The student who is in total exemption must follow the instructions below:
1. Enroll through Delphi system and select the option “portatore di handicap / vittima della criminalità” (“Student with disability/victim of crime); 2. The system will issue a bulletin of € 0.00 that will have to be validated in the Delphi system inserting the AUTH code; 3. The student, within 60 days from the enrollment date, must submit the documentation attesting the disability to the CARIS (via the Politecnico, 1 – School of Engineering).

The CARIS will check the documentation submitted and:
• If the documentation will be correct, the CARIS:
A. will validate the total exemption on Delphi system;
B. will send an e-mail to the student confirming the total exemption;
C. will send to the Student Secretariat a copy of the documentation attesting the condition of the student.

• If the documentation will not be correct, the CARIS:
A. will insert in the Delphi system the first installment payment;
B. will send an e-mail to the student asking to pay the first installment;
C. will send to the Student Secretariat a communication stating that the student has not the total exemption.
In case of "temporary disability”, the student will have to repeat for each academic year the above procedure.

Partial Exemption from the Payment of the Tuition Fees Second Installment (disability between 46% and 65%)

The procedure for requesting the partial exemption is enabled on the Delphi system after the payment of the first installment.
Students with disability between 46% and 65% have a reduction of 20% on the amount of the second installment and they must submit to the CARIS by 15 March 2020 the documentation attesting the disability.

The CARIS will check the documentation submitted and:

• If the documentation will be correct, the CARIS:
A. will validate the partial exemption on Delphi system;
B. will send an e-mail to the student to confirm the partial exemption;
C. will send to the Student Secretariat a copy of the documentation attesting the condition of the student.

• If the documentation will not be correct, the CARIS:
A. will insert in the Delphi system the bulletin for the payment of the second installment without the partial exemption;
B. will send an e-mail to the student asking him to pay the second installment;
C. will send to the Student Secretariat a communication stating that the student has not the partial exemption.
