TEMI DELL'ECONOMIA APPLICATA
1) La ricerca sul benessere soggettivo: indicatori di soddisfazione di vita/felicità, problematiche metodologiche, risultati empirici e implicazioni politiche
Questa parte del corso si occupa di ricerca applicata sul benessere soggettivo. La ricerca si è sviluppata dalla nota osservazione del disaccoppiamento tra crescita del PIL e quota di persone molto felici (paradosso di Easterlin). Spiegheremo come viene misurata la soddisfazione di vita utilizzando indicatori cognitivi, affettivi ed eudaimoni fino alle nuove misure di generatività. Ci occupiamo bene di questioni metodologiche e di ricerca empirica con particolare attenzione a: paradosso della felicità di genere, felicità e salute, felicità e istruzione, felicità e reddito relativo). Concluderemo su approfondimenti e implicazioni politiche per la definizione di indicatori di benessere
2) Ricerca empirica sulla responsabilità sociale d'impresa
La vecchia idea di pianificatori benevoli che risolvono i fallimenti del mercato (differenze tra ottimo privato e sociale) ha lasciato il posto a un nuovo paradigma di welfare più articolato che tiene conto della debolezza, dei conflitti di interesse e della presa dell'istituzione domestica nel sistema economico globale. La responsabilità sociale e ambientale delle imprese è quindi emersa come un approccio a quattro mani se il ruolo della mano invisibile dei meccanismi di mercato e della mano visibile delle istituzioni è integrato dalla terza mano della responsabilità aziendale e dalla quarta mano della cittadinanza attiva che vota con il portafoglio . In questa parte del corso esaminiamo alcuni aspetti metodologici, risultati empirici e implicazioni politiche della ricerca sulla responsabilità sociale d'impresa.

TOPICS IN APPLIED ECONOMICS
1) The research on subjective wellbeing: life satisfaction/happiness indicators, methodological issues, empirical findings and policy implication
This part of the course deals with applied research on subjective wellbeing. The research developed from the well-known observation of the decoupling between GDP growth and the share of very happy people (Easterlin paradox). We will explain how life satisfaction is measured using cognitive, affective and eudaimonic indicators up to the novel generativity measures. We well deal with methodological issues and empirical research with special focus to the: gender happiness paradox, happiness and health, happiness and education, happiness and relative income). We will conclude on insights and policy implications for the definition of wellbeing indicators
2) Empirical research on corporate social responsibility
The old idea of benevolent planners solving market failures (differences between private and social optimum) has given way to a new more articulated welfare paradigm that takes into account the weakness, conflicts of interest and capture of domestic institution in the global economic system. Corporate social and environmental responsibility thereby emerged as a four-handed approach whether the role of the invisible hand of market mechanisms and the visible hand of institutions is complemented by the third hand of corporate responsibility and the fourth hand of active citizenship that votes with the wallet. In this part of the course we examine some methodological aspects, empirical findings and policy implications of research on corporate social responsibility.
