Jan Adriaanse is a full Professor of Turnaround Management in the Department of Business Studies, Institute of Tax Law and Economics, Leiden Law School at Leiden University, where he also has a concurrent position as Head of Department.
Prof. Adriaanse received a PhD in Law (Leiden), a LLM in Law (Leiden), a LLB in Law (Leiden), and a BBA in Business Administration (Nyenrode). His research covers informal reorganisation, strategic renewal, and turnaround management. In 2007 he was invited to participate in the Entrepreneurship Colloquium at Harvard Business School. His doctoral thesis was titled “Restructuring in the Shadow of the Law. Informal Reorganisation in the Netherlands”.
Prof. Adriaanse has taught in Bachelor, Master, and Executive Education programmes. Recipient of EU and other research grants his work focuses on early warning signals, causes of failure, and turnaround strategies, as well as understanding why turnaround attempts fail or are successful including the role of alternative dispute resolution and meditation. In 2013 he initiated ‘Turnaround, Rescue and Insolvency (TRI)’, an online platform (www.tri-leiden.eu/) for legal and business scholars as well as Masters students from the Leiden Law School.
Prof. Adriaanse has advised Dutch ministries and the parliament on issues related to business rescue and bankruptcy law. He is a frequently asked keynote speaker and regularly appears as an expert on national radio and television. In addition, he is a much sought after business consultant who regularly works with owners, leaders and executive teams across the world for advice on strategic renewal, turnaround and business rescue. He is founder and director of Turnaround PowerHouse®, an international training institute and consultancy firm focusing on renewal and turnaround leaderschip in Rotterdam (turnaroundpowerhouse.com and www.turnaroundgaming.com).
