Chat control
Dear all,
regarding the discussion we had in class today, you can find more details on the proposed European law to effectively ban end-to-end encryption here: https://nextcloud.com/blog/how-the-eu-chat-control-law-is-a-threat-to-democracy/ (nextcloud is the chosen EU provider for file storage). There was an important discussion last Friday but I could not find details of it anywhere - the most up-to-date information I have is here: https://www.computerweekly.com/news/366630597/Chat-Control-EU-to-decide-on-requirement-for-tech-firms-to-scan-encrypted-messages.
On Telegram not providing end-to-end encryption by default, see this: https://blog.cryptographyengineering.com/2024/08/25/telegram-is-not-really-an-encrypted-messaging-app/.
And on Pegasus and how it represented a major vulnerability for iPhone users, see this: https://www.theguardian.com/news/2021/jul/18/what-is-pegasus-spyware-and-how-does-it-hack-phones and this: https://appleinsider.com/articles/25/02/20/pegasus-infections-on-iphones-more-common-than-previously-believed. Apple has tried to quickly patch vulnerabilities as they are discovered, but it's a game of whack-a-mole.
See you tomorrow,
Prof. Brandimarte
Updated groups
Dear all,
I updated the file containing group assignments with the latest additions (students who did not attend the first class). Please check it out, as I added a whole new group and some of the students added to existing groups were moved to Group Grey.
Best,
Prof. Brandimarte
Group formation and contacts
Dear all,
I've just posted the spreadsheet with group assignments on our website. In it, you will also find one email address per group (for each group, I simply added the first email address I could find on my DIDA records): please reach out to that group member to coordinate your activities.
As ever, do reach out to me if you have questions or concerns.
Best,
Prof. Brandimarte
Updating the list of registered Students 2025/2026
Dear Students,
In order to have an updated list, I am removing you from the course.
Only those who have not completed the exam and wish to take it in the fall or winter session are kindly requested to re-register for the course on DIDA.
All the best,
Azadeh
