Morita Norimasa

Norimasa Morita is professor in film and literary studies at School of International Liberal Studies (SILS) and Graduate School of International Culture and Communication Studies (GSICCS) at Waseda University, Tokyo.  He obtained his BA and MA from Waseda University and MA and Ph. D. from University of Kent at Canterbury.  He served as Dean of SILS between 2014 and 2018 and Vice-President for International Affairs of Waseda University.  As Vice-President he expanded Waseda’s international network, founded its international graduate school (GSICCS), opened its global offices in Brussels, Bonn, Paris and Rome and increased the number of both incoming and outgoing exchange students as well as faculty mobility.  His recent publications include Japan beyond Borders: Transnational Approaches to Film and Media (2020, Seibunsha) and Japanese Transnational Cinema (2020, MPDI).  Morita has been translating major works by Ziegmund Bauman, Terry Eagleton and Richard Sennett and is now re-translating Bauman’s Modernity and Holocaust to be published in 2021.  He was a visiting fellow to Birkbeck College, University of London and is now a visiting professor to Tor Vergata University of Rome.
