Hey! My name is Giordano and I’m from Rome, Italy. After completing the amazing GG journey in 2017, I moved to Lund, Sweden, where I started a Master’s programme in Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation. There, I had the chance to further explore the knowledge and skills acquired throughout GG, and to deepen my competences related to this exciting field of interest. At the moment I find myself in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, where I am conducting an internship at the Tsunami and Disaster Mitigation Research Center. As 2004 taught us, this region is extremely vulnerable to both earthquakes and tsunamis. Just last month a tsunami struck an Indonesian island, Sulawesi, and I had the opportunity to join a team from my organization for the response and research operations. After visiting the affected areas, I realized how vulnerable our species still is to natural hazards; and how much can still be done to enhance its resilience towards adverse climatic and geophysical events.
