Slides Topic E changed

Thursday, April 3, 2025

dear student,

since we're going a bit slower than I anticipated, which is entirely OK given this is the first time I teach this course to undergrads, I cut away the last part of the presentation on topic E, starting from where we ended today.

I uploadedthe corrected slides deck that should be about 30 slides shorter than the other one.

please let me know if there are problems

Papers for presentations

Thursday, April 3, 2025

Dear students,

The folders with the papers among which you can choose the one you want to present are available on the course page.

When you have chosen your paper, write your name in correspondence with that paper inthe Excel file circulated by Giulia.

if somebody else chose that papers before you, you have to choose another one.

As I explained, if the paper you choose is technical, mathematically or econometrically, you of course don’t need to go into the technicalities.

In that case, you can read carefully the introduction, the literature review, the main results and the conclusions. What you need to present, for these technical papers, is indicatively:

  • What are the main research questions
  • why they are important in general
  • How do they relate to our course
  • What are the answers they provide (and how they get to the answers, but without too much technicality)
  • How do the answers contribute to the knowledge we had before this paper was written
  • Why the answers are iimportant, in general and in relation to what we discussed in class
  • What is your opinion on the study

Since you have 15 minutes, including questions, do not produce too many slides. depending on how they are (try not to make them too full otherwise the audience will read instead of listening to you), I think it should be below 10 sides, I would stay towards 7 or 8 and try how long does it take.

take care
