A dear colleague, a magnificent teacher, and a great friend has suddenly left us: Massimo Regoli.

Our colleague and friend Massimo Regoli passed away yesterday, September 6 2025. We remember him fondly with the words of his friend and our GG colleague Simone Borra below. The Community of Global Governance, Alumni and students who had the privilege to be taught by him, the staff and the teachers who knew him express their sincere condolences to the family.

I never imagined I would have to write these words.

A dear colleague, a magnificent teacher, and a great friend has suddenly left us: Massimo Regoli.

He left us too soon, far too soon. But speed was the trait that most distinguished him in my eyes: the rapidity of his thinking when he had to solve an algorithmic problem, the speed of his explanations, the speed with which he found connections and transitions from one topic to another, from one point of view to another. A speed used to cover long lines of reasoning that took him very far, the speed he then put into his legs to run long marathons. This rapidity always struck me. And then, not least, his modesty. I had grown up with the idea that a 'scientist' should have an intrinsic modesty. In reality, I have almost never found this modesty, except in a few people, and among them, Massimo. His modesty was directly connected to his great generosity offered to anyone who asked him for advice or an opinion. This magnificent combination of human qualities made him unique, in my eyes, in the eyes of many colleagues, but above all in the eyes of the thousands of students who had the good fortune and honor of meeting him. Massimo was a lecturer on the Global Governance program, where in just a few weeks of classes he managed to fascinate students with clear and passionate lessons.

His beauty of soul and generosity met, in a very short space of time, with such a dramatic outcome, preceded by the loss of his wife.

He leaves us all feeling more alone, incredulous, speechless, and in tears.

I let myself be carried away by this image: a huge crowd of girls, boys, friends, colleagues, bent over like a huge arch embracing his three wonderful daughters.

Goodbye Massimo!

Simone
