Ernesto CIFALDI

IE Business School - Master's Degree in Management (Digital Business)

As a final year undergraduate student of Global Governance majoring in Business Administration, I want to challenge myself in the international arena of business.  Combining my interdisciplinary awareness of the issues of globalization together with further studies of managerial practices and global sustainable development, my aim is to contribute to social innovation and Corporate Social Responsibility.
I started crafting my career-development strategy by embracing different emerging experiences, being fully aware that the wealthiest asset I own is my unfailing flair for opportunities.  During my university career, I participated in the Model United Nations, facing the importance of networks and diplomacy when bargaining for advantage.  Then I spent my first-year summer holidays abroad, taking a challenging Financial Accounting summer school program at The London School of Economics and Political Sciences.  Then I joined a winter school program with the University of Cologne comparing politics and institutions in Germany and Italy and producing a report with my German peer.
I am curious and, to a certain extent, enterprising. At the end of my second year I had the opportunity to work in an Internship programme at the Italian public company for renewable energy, Gestore dei Servizi Energetici GSE spa, where I have shadowed the team of the business development unit in a change management project aimed at making the company an excellence in the public sector.  During the whole three-months period, I have experienced several managerial practices; then I contributed to business process re-engineering and designed new operating model for the governance of innovative projects.  I practiced also soft skills by organising meetings and chairing conferences, enhancing communication skills whilst liaising with other departments and institutions.  Then I learned how to deliver high quality results under pressure and team-working constraints.  I also gained a solid knowledge of the energy market.  In particular, I had a perspective on how the Government’s political and economic agenda affects policies and measures concerning renewable energy.
I am going to finish my three-years bachelor degree specializing on the business side of international studies on globalization.  In order to expand my knowledge in this field, I attended several extra undergraduate-level courses offered by Tor Vergata University: the first course was in Innovation Management Methodologies, from the MSc in Business Administration, where I have been given useful innovative tools for international companies’ competitiveness.  Job markets increasingly rely on creative thinking, while new ideas require a structured process to become reality: this is why I will also join in the next few weeks a Project Management extra course offered by Global Governance BA.
Social issues attract me and I have always been inspired to have a meaningful impact on society.  With enthusiasm I have been balancing multiple activities also outside University; I have had, indeed, fruitful experiences in non-profit organizations.  I worked with OXFAM as a volunteer, involved in a campaign to sponsor the “Zero Hunger Challenge” program. I have been serving the community as a member, and then as President of the Rotaract Club of my neighbourhood, partner association of Rotary International.  There, I carried out several initiatives such as managing recreational sessions for handicapped patients and organizing fundraising activities for projects of international cooperation.
