Lavinia APICELLA
My name is Lavinia Apicella, I’m 19 years old and I was born and raised in this wonderful city, Rome, where I attend a classical high school. I have always been very curious, passionate about my schoolwork and interested in embracing new experiences: I became part of a scouts group when I was nine years old, joined a volleyball team and played the guitar in the school orchestra. All these activities allowed me to learn how to work and to collaborate in a group in order to reach common goals. However, it wasn’t until two years ago that my life changed completely when I won a scholarship to spend one year in Sweden as an exchange student. Leaving everything behind and fully integrating in a different culture was not easy, but it was necessary to my understanding of global issues as well as interesting and inspirational for my future. It was a valuable experience, thanks to which I became more independent and I realized the great importance of cultural differences. During my year abroad, I also had the chance to get to know many refugees and have a closer look to their real condition. This experience gave me a more direct view of the problems facing these people and confirmed my intention to understand the political and social issues behind their stories. By choosing Global Governance, I hope to be able to contribute to the solution of this problem as for immigration is my main interest. In the future, I would also like to start a career in the European Union or work for non-governmental organizations.
